Shakira up for two Teen Choice awards

We're pleased to report that Shakira has been nominated for two Teen Choice Awards. She's up for:

- BEST FEMALE ARTIST
- BEST ACTIVIST ARTIST

Help me fulfill my dreams of a higher ed

Shakira, I was here when you came to Arizona to speak out against SB1070. Thank you so much for your support. I also applaud your commitment to 1GOAL. You have said that "every child in the world should have access to an education." Unfortunately, even in a great country like the United States, and in the state of Arizona, there are undocumented students who do not have that access, despite their immense talent. I'm talking about 85 students whose scholarship fund has run out of money. We cannot receive merit scholarships or state funded scholarships because we were brought to this country as children and have been prisoners of our own success. Our access to education is being blocked by racist and xenophobic laws. However, we are getting together and organizing, working with Chicanos Por La Causa, Mayor Phil Gordon, and educational institutions. I hear you might be joining the Sound Strike and avoid performing in Arizona, but I ask you: Will you be willing to hold a benefit concert here in Arizona where the proceeds will go to these 85 university students who are about to finish their education? You have the opportunity to have a bigger positive impact by coming here than the limited passive impact by not coming. I humbly ask for you to come to Arizona. Help us access that education we are fighting for. And you will be creating a new generation of leaders to combat laws like SB1070 and serve communities in need. Shakira, please help me achieve my dream of becoming a mechanical engineer and serve as an example to all the children that believe higher education is not attainable. Please help "The 85".
